Perhaps consciousness emerges from the relationship between unlike material structures? That's a core premise of many origin stories and global indigenous thought systems, as I understand. Consciousness emerges combinatorially, in the "completion" created by unlike parts. Not saying this is my belief. Simply worth being curious.
